Revitalize Your Creative Spirit
at The Brownville Jazz

Voice and the Anatomy of the Rhythm Section

Mark your calendars! The Brownville Jazz Retreat has announced the Brownville Jazz Retreat is back in 2021 – this time virtual!

Voice and the Anatomy of the Rhythm Section founded by the Brownville Fine Arts Association will bring some of today’s Jazz greats to the midwest area to offer this unique musical opportunity to learn from and listen to the best jazz musicians and teachers in the US.

We at the Brownville Jazz Retreat believe strongly that the apprenticeship model should play a strong role in instruction. We know that having the “Cats in the Classrooms”, even if it is virtual, provides a foundation for a new generation of practitioners of this American born art form, JAZZ.

The Brownville Jazz Retreat has engaged professional, award winning performers/instructors.

Our Artist in Residence Bassist, John Clayton will not only share his expertise on the bass, but also composing for soloists and the relationship between soloists and accompanists.

Vocal Jazz allows you to utilize the voice as an instrument. Your approach to vocal Jazz will be enhanced by Dee Daniels and Jackie Allen .

The Rhythm Section is a living breathing organism that requires and deserves special attention. You’ll explore the craft with Jeff Hamilton, Matt Wilson, Gerald Clayton, Tamir Handelman and Hans Sturm.

All our instructors will give participants focused instruction that will explore the concepts and techniques of band stand engagement and a variety of performance topics.

We encourage beginners to seasoned professionals to attend our camp. BJR is focused on the connection between the soloist and rhythm section bond.
